Charles Eugene Lancelot Brown (*17.06.1863 Winterthur; +02.05.1924 Montagnola/Tessin) war ein Schweizer Maschinenkonstrukteur und Mitbegründer des Elektrotechnikkonzerns Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC) in Baden (Kanton Aargau). Er war dafür bekannt bei Kostümfesten in aufwändigen Kostümen aufzutreten. Das Foto zeigt ihn verkleidet als Operndiva. Charles E.L. Brown und Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen hielten sich vom 06.-09.08.1902 und vom 05.-15.08.1903 gleichzeitig im Hotel Waldhaus in Flims auf. Bei einem der Aufenthalte kam es wohl zur Übergabe des Bildes. W.C. Röntgen hat auf die Rückseite des Bildes "Mr. Brown Baden als Dame" geschrieben.
